HEAL painted a grey blob over the photo it was meant to repair, and the
cause was one draw Skia gets wrong on this build: a snapshot used as a
SCALED source comes back with the alpha multiplied into its rgb a second
time, so a partly transparent rim — which is what the mask's feather is —
was read as a dark wash. A pyramid of halvings is built of exactly those
scaled draws, which is why the repair's own rim came out grey; the same
source read at 1:1 is exact (measured, tmp-src-probe).
So the fill is now a cascade of blurs, all of them 1:1: the cut frame is
blurred at a few widths, widest first, each finer one drawn over it, the
untouched cut on top. The finest is one brush wide, each next is twice the
last, and the count follows the depth of the hole (the stroke's own
diagonal against the widest brush), which is what keeps the middle of a
long hole filled rather than bare. Nothing is copied from anywhere and the
rim arrives with no seam, which is what the passes were always for.
And the fill is built on the brush's own box rather than the frame, padded
by three sigma of the widest level. The composite reads it only where the
mask is, so this changes no pixel of the result (heal-check measures the
same masks either way) and it is what makes the repair affordable at the
zoom a repair is aimed at: at a 3200px preview a single spot went from
1.7s of frozen main thread to 1.2s, and the heal's own share of that from
0.8s to 0.3s. What is left is the pipeline itself, which is a separate
matter.
The FIX brush outlived its tab. It takes the pointer on the photo, and
leaving TOOLS never put it down — so its layer stayed on the stage over a
photo nobody was editing, and its ring came back under the pointer every
time the hand crossed a repair, which reads as the tool re-arming itself.
It now goes down with the tab, with another chip or another strip, and on
a press outside its own two chips, the same way the mask tool does.
And the Immich button was missing for a visitor who had just connected a
server: the studio and the library are two screens of one page, both
mounted, so coming back is a route change and not a mount — the studio's
own effect, which reads the server list once a session, never ran again.
It is read again on a popstate that lands on /app.
Checks: node scripts/heal-check.mjs (the cascade and the box, to the
letter), npx tsc --noEmit, and the studio driven in a browser: the button
appears on the way back from the library, the brush goes down with TOOLS
and re-arms with HEAL, and a stroke over a photo lays one band with no grey
in it.
- RAW opens at the colour the camera wrote into it: the develop carries the
difference against the file's own preview (previewResidual) instead of the
per-channel cubic fit, dE00 6.04 -> 0.54; previewMatch.ts keeps only the grid.
- Immich reading: keyset position kept across visits, one reading per node,
a page in flight retried, timeline buckets for the years on offer.
- The wall draws a server frame at the address the proxy serves it (no blob
minted for it), and the 80-thumbnail pre-cache on open is gone.
- Settings lists the cloud links, flags two that answer at the same address,
and forgets one.
- Custom frames imported from a file (engine/customFrame.ts, IndexedDB).
- Upload an edited frame from Studio to Immich Cloud.
The library is the accounts' shelf, but the tab kept two copies of that fact: the
screen read `/me` once as it mounted and then stopped listening, so a visitor who
signed in at the studio came back to the panel asking for the login they had just
given. One record, read by the studio, the landing page and the shelf alike, is
now the only copy — a sign-in anywhere is a sign-in everywhere.
- auth.ts (new): the tab's one session record. `useAuth()` reads it through
`useSyncExternalStore`, a `/me` already in flight is joined rather than
repeated, and a call that fails leaves the record *unknown* rather than signed
out, so a cold API never reads as a guest.
- TopBar: LIBRARY is a link for a member and a dead button for everyone else. An
anchor wearing `aria-disabled` still navigates on a click, and the screen
behind it would only send the guest home again — so a guest gets the shape of
the button and nothing to press.
- Library: the gate is that shared record, not a copy taken at mount. A guest who
opens `/library` straight is turned home with `replace`, so a Back press does
not walk them into the same wall. The screen is mounted the whole time the tab
is open, so the turn is for the address the visitor actually opened: a guest on
the studio stays on the studio.
- engine/library.ts: the thumbs hand the thread back. Two lanes instead of four,
a frame's worth of idle between them, and one job per frame — a second caller
joins the decode already running instead of starting another.
Verified in Chrome (stubbed API, harness run against both the dev server and the
built bundle): a guest gets a dead LIBRARY button and stays on /app; signing in at
the studio turns it into the link and opens the shelf, with no second login and no
"log in to browse" note; the same after a sign-in on the landing page; /library
opened cold as a guest lands on / with Back going to /app; opened cold signed in,
the shelf is up. On a folder of 22 frames the open runs 2 decodes at a time (was
5) and repeats no frame (44 decodes, was 56 — 12 frames were read twice); the
tiles still come out 22 on the open, 24 by hand, 22 again after a reload.
LIBRARY, RESET, SAVE PHOTO and EXPORT are icons on a phone from here on. The
recipe is the one the file already used for the stage's toolbar: font-size 0
takes the word out of the paint, never out of the button, so every accessible
name is exactly the word that is no longer drawn, and a ::before carries the
glyph (▤ ⟲ ⤓ ↗ — all of them already spoken in this app). The row's own content
measured 990px wide with the words and 716px with the icons, and the bar it sat
in measured 135px tall on a 390px screen before this and 88px after: three rows
to two.
RESET also gains a data-key (`reset-look`) — the CSS has to be able to name it.
EXPORT moves to the end of the <header>, after the three menus. It is the end of
the job and now the end of the row, which is the button the eye should land on
once the edit is done.
SAVE PHOTO's PRO marker goes with the word: a 9px badge inside a 34px button is
a word in a box too small for it, and the count that shares the label has no room
either. The button keeps its title, and the count is the one thing the phone
loses here — the wide screen still counts.
The header is now `position: sticky; top: 0; z-index: 5` on a phone. The page
never scrolls (the stage does), so nothing moved before this and nothing moves
now — but that is a promise the layout can keep rather than a coincidence of who
scrolls. `.adm-bar` already carried the same three lines.
The tab strip at the foot grows to the size a thumb is: pills 10px on 8x12 and
28px tall become 12px on 0x16 with a 44px floor, and the bar's own padding goes
6x8 to 8x10. Measured: a pill 28px to 44px, the bar 40px to 61px.
This commit also lands the strip work from the session before it, which was
written and probed but never committed: under 860px the rail of tabs and the
tab's chips become one bar at a time (`.workspace.strip-open`), a TABS chip
stands the rail back up, the open chip's sub-chips stand over the bar as 60px
tiles, and the ruler is drawn as ticks on a bare input. It shares app.css with
the bar above, so the phone's block lands in one piece.
Checks:
- npm run build (tsc --noEmit + vite) clean.
- The ten browser-free image checks (tone-base, highlight-knee, half,
white-level, auto-tone, preview-match, raw-develop, roll-walk, wb-table,
mask-wb) all pass.
- Playwright at 390x844, light and dark (scratchpad topbar-probe.mjs): header
sticky, top 0px, z-index 5, y=0 h=88, lastElementChild data-key
export-photo; the four buttons 34x30 with font-size 0 and a 15px ::before;
the rail at y=783 h=61 with a 93x44 pill at 12px; the theme popover inside
the screen (x=47, right=382); every scroller set to 400 leaves headerY at 0;
strip-open keeps headerY 0 with the rail display:none; no page errors.
- Playwright at 1280 (scratchpad topbar-desktop.mjs): header static, one row
50px, the same four buttons at 14px with no ::before, EXPORT last.
Skipped: no new aria-label — the words the icons replace are still the buttons'
own text, so nothing needs one. Add one only if a label leaves the DOM.
The colour band chips only aimed the mixer before; now they open the same
panel the eyedropper opens, seeded with the colour the chip is named after
(hexToRgb turns that readout back into the RGB bytes the picker stores).
A pick already on the photo keeps its spot — only a mixer with nowhere to
hang takes the middle of the frame.
The HSL column itself is untouched: 8 chips, the rule, IMAGE,
HUE/SAT/LUM, the readout and RESET all stay where they were.
The reading of a folder belongs to the tab, not to the catalogue screen: it was
made to survive the hand-over to the studio in 753eea0, and it does. What was
missing was any sign of it up there — a visitor who hands a half-read roll to the
studio saw a page that said nothing about the frames still landing, and had no
way to tell a reading in flight from one that had quietly died. The one thing
that did say so, the toolbar line, lived on the screen they had just left.
The header now carries it, immediately left of the way back into the catalogue,
where the two belong together: the ring the catalogue already uses for a roll in
hand, and the count the toolbar states, "4/12", whose title is the same
"Scanning 4/12 — 0 new…" line in the visitor's language. It reads the session
through scanSession() and watches it with watchScan() exactly as the catalogue
does, so a pass that moves the progress moves the header too — the session object
outlives them both, only its progress is replaced each pass. No new state is
introduced, no new copy: the markup borrows .lib-spin and the lib.scanning key
the catalogue already had.
Verified: tsc --noEmit and vite build clean; scripts/scan-nav-check.mjs grew one
step at the first hand-over, "the studio header shows the reading the tab is
doing", which waits for [data-key="studio-scan-count"] mid-scan and matches it
against \d+/\d+ — it passes with 4/12, the same reading the toolbar shows at that
moment; the other 18 steps of that check, the 52 steps of library-check.mjs and
roll-walk-check.mjs all still pass.
ponytail: the header states progress, it does not offer to stop the scan; the
catalogue's own STOP stays the one place that ends a reading. Add a control here
when someone asks to stop a roll from the studio.

A RAW studio that cannot see a folder is one photo at a time. /library
now takes a folder through Chromium's directory picker, keeps the handle
in IndexedDB so the folder is there on the next visit, and walks it into
a grid: one thumbnail per frame, the frame's own date, and the recipe it
was last graded with. Nothing is uploaded and nothing is read twice —
the RAW itself is opened only when a tile is clicked, at which point the
studio develops it and the recipe comes back on top. The studio files
every change back against the frame, debounced, so reopening a RAW is
not doing the grade again.
Thumbnails come off LibRaw's unpack_thumb for a RAW, which is a seek and
a copy where a develop is a full decode of every pixel, and off
createImageBitmap for anything else. A RAW with no preview inside it
gets a placeholder tile rather than a minute of decoding per file.
node scripts/library-check.mjs
ok both frames indexed as tiles — 2 tiles from P1010256.JPG + P1010256.RW2
ok thumbnail for P1010256.JPG — 40400 bytes, jpeg=true
ok thumbnail for P1010256.RW2 — 39895 bytes, jpeg=true (LibRaw preview)
ok studio developed the frame from its handle
ok the address was handed back — url=/app (no ?lib= left behind)
ok the look was filed back against the frame — baseFilter=none, 19 knobs
ok the tile says the frame is edited
Saving into the account's own folder has always been the account's act —
the button opened the way in and the API answers an unproven address with
a 403 — but nothing on the button said so, so it read as a button that
quietly did nothing. It now wears the same PRO marker the chips do, and
only while the folder is not the visitor's.
MY PHOTOS is that folder's listing, so the tab is only offered once an
account can hold one. A guest loses the tab entirely rather than opening
it on an empty folder that could never fill; an account that has signed
up but not proven its address keeps the tab, and the tab keeps offering
the way to prove it.
Undo and redo were on the far side of the spacer, past RESET, SAVE PHOTO
and EXPORT. They belong next to what they step through: the header now
reads mark, page name, preset name, the two arrows, then the actions.
The server still never sees a photo, so the model has to run in the page.
Real-ESRGAN x4v3 ships as a 4.9MB ONNX in public/models and is loaded
lazily on the first export that actually needs it; the wasm runtime is
copied next to CanvasKit at build time and stays lazily fetched, cached
for 30 days. Vite is told onnxruntime-web is external-wasm so no 28MB
asset lands in the bundle.
UNCHANGED keeps the old path and the tier cap; 2K/4K/custom upscale only
when the request is larger than the photo being edited, otherwise they
resize down. Guests keep UNCHANGED and 2K. Tiling is 256px with an 8px
overlap, so memory follows the target size rather than four times it.
The ten PHOTO STYLE sims now carry nothing but their stock's own grade, and
each is named for the stock it stands for: PROVIA, VELVIA, CLASSIC CHROME,
CLASSIC VIVID (Velvia spliced with Classic Chrome at the blue row), CLASSIC
NEGATIVE, ASTIA, ETERNA, ACROS, LC STREETLIFE CLASSIC, LC STREETLIFE VIVID.
Grain, clarity, saturation and light moves were dropped from their
`adjustments`, so a sim is a clean starting point and the general knobs read
their defaults while the look still lands on the pixels.
LC STREETLIFE VIVID keeps the one brightness step its stock needs, but as
SIM_EXPOSURE_BIAS in colorUtils rather than as an adjustment: it is folded in
where the Exposure slider applies, so the picture gets the lift and the
parameter stays at 0.
Also in this checkpoint: the watermark/GPS boxes and their colour pickers, the
WATERMARK chip column, the real admin stats, and the fix that stopped presets
from doubling and a frame from refusing to come off when a photo was reopened
(/file is the finished render, /base the editable pixels).
Four things the studio owed the visitor:
- UNDO/REDO in the header, so a look can be taken back and put back without
reloading the photo; a fresh edit clears the redo trail.
- Opening a saved frame, or picking a look out of its history, now drops the
stale preview buffer instead of leaving the previous render on the stage.
- The picked history look is marked in the accent, so it is plain which look
the photo is wearing.
- The histogram is re-clamped against the photo box on resize, so opening a
chip column no longer pushes the overlay past the edge of the canvas.
The 'NEW SAVES: FILM STRIP' chip goes: a save already lands in the strip.
The six section links leave the top bar for a thin shelf under it, each a
bordered pill at the page's normal text size, so the bar itself stays a
row of actions and the jumps still read as buttons.
The Theme menu gains the workspace's colour groups — the landing palette
now takes its hue from the accent tokens — an Auto mode that follows the
OS scheme live, and a dropdown in place of the three font chips.
Every member gets /photos — their own uploads, counted against a 12-photo
cap, each card showing the tagline and the technical line the studio would
print. The studio gains SAVE PHOTO n/12 in the top bar: it renders the full
resolution look, stores the strip (tag/title/meta) with the upload so the
landing reel frames it the same way, and refuses past the cap.
EXPORT now burns that strip into the file: the amber #TAG over the photo's
top-left plus a dark caption band below carrying the recipe name and the
ISO / grain / warmth line. The live preview stays clean, and the saved
upload stays clean too — the reel draws its own frame from the stored
labels, so a burned band would tag the tag twice.
Admins manage any photo through DELETE /api/photos/:id; members only their
own. The users table's photo counts stay in step with the folder.
- /admin User account rows gain BLOCK/UNBLOCK, REMOVE/RESTORE and DELETE.
Blocked = cannot sign in (sessions swept), removed = hidden from the strip
and cannot sign in, both reversible; DELETE drops the account with its
photos and recipes and unlinks the files. An allowlisted account is never
a target, so an admin cannot moderate or delete itself.
- Photo uploads move from a 3MB API cap / 4m nginx cap to 12MB / 16m, and
the browser shrinks an oversized still before sending it (2048px JPEG,
avatars 512px) so the declared type still matches the sniffed bytes.
- The studio SAVE leaves the top bar and sits under the CREATE RECIPES tab,
labelled SAVE RECIPES.
The landing, /admin and /profile all show the icon + RecipesCam wordmark
with the page name beside it; the studio still showed a bare "RecipesCam
web" text. Same pair now, so the phone header says where the visitor is.
- an account can carry a picture: POST /api/auth/avatar (raw bytes,
sniffed, replaces and unlinks the old file) and the public
GET /api/users/:id/avatar. It rides wherever the account is named —
the landing chip, the studio TopBar, the profile form.
- new /profile page for members, sharing one Profile form (picture,
email, password) with the admin drawer.
- /admin is now one bordered frame whose left column is
Profile / User account / Pictures / Close. Pictures lists every
photo in the system with the slot that shows it; User account lists
each account's name, email, picture and contribution count.
- account control opens a menu: Admin page + Log out for an admin,
Profile + Log out for a member.
The theme menu now carries a fourth choice beside light/dark and the accent:
the font pairing. All three pairings are free for commercial use (SIL OFL),
have a Vietnamese subset, and are self-hosted — the landing still makes no
CDN request.
- styles/fonts.css: 22 @font-face blocks for Plus Jakarta Sans, Inter,
JetBrains Mono, Fraunces, Be Vietnam Pro, Courier Prime and Space Mono,
vietnamese/latin-ext/latin subsets only, under public/assets/fonts.
- styles/tokens.css: [data-fonts="studio|editorial|native"] sets --font,
--font-heading and --mono. Studio (Plus Jakarta Sans + Inter + JetBrains
Mono) is the default.
- theme/: FontSetId + FONT_SETS, persisted as rc.fonts, applied as
<html data-fonts> next to data-theme and data-accent.
- TopBar and the landing nav both get the picker; on the landing the theme
tool now opens a small popover (light/dark + font group) instead of
toggling on click.
- landing.css: --lp-display/--lp-mono now resolve to the chosen group, so the
picker retypes the whole page. Syne.woff2 goes with its @font-face.
`docker/` now holds the whole web build — frontend (Vite + React + CanvasKit),
backend (Fastify + SQLite) and the compose file — so the folder can be moved to
another machine and run without the React Native project:
cd docker && cp .env.example .env && docker compose up -d --build
Only `${WEB_PORT:-8090}` is published; nginx serves the SPA and proxies /api to
the `api` container over Docker's DNS. Photos never reach the server.
The shared render code is vendored into `docker/frontend/shared/` and aliased to
a CanvasKit shim, so the app's own frameUtils/toneShader/jpegDpi run unchanged.
Fix the all-black render on GPU surfaces: `MakeWebGLCanvasSurface` creates a
separate WebGL context per call, and a texture from one context cannot be
sampled by a surface on another — so any pass that drew a snapshot onto a second
surface (output sharpen, screen sharpen, polaroid/wallframe cards) came out
solid black, while the raster fallback was correct. Use one shared
GrDirectContext + MakeRenderTarget instead.
Verified in headless Chromium against the running stack: 12MP JPEG in, preview
mean=120.5 sd=60.5, export 2048x1536 mean=107.2 sd=62.1, JFIF density 300/300,
EXIF present, no console errors; health/signup/login/me/recipes all 2xx through
the nginx proxy.
